Notes
Short length means rigid. McMaster’s short class trades reach for stiffness, which matters more than usual at 1/8”: a jobber-length bit this thin flexes and wanders before it ever gets to full depth. Max drilling depth here is 0.68”, plenty for pilot holes and dowel joinery, not enough for anything that needs to go all the way through 1” stock.
TiN is a metal-shop coating that happens to be fine in wood too. It buys higher speed and longer life on tool steel and stainless, which this bit will probably never see, but it doesn’t cost anything in wood or plastic, so there’s no reason to buy the uncoated version instead.
Split point, so it starts on contact. No center punch needed for wood or plastic; the 135° point walks less than a standard 118° point would on a hard or angled surface.
