The RPMs sit lower than the spiral bits because three flutes split the 300 ipm firmware cap three ways. At 16,000 rpm the cap would hold chipload to 0.006” and the tips would burnish more than cut. 12,000 and down is where a real chipload lives on this machine.
Notes
Depth per pass is a power budget, not a strength limit. A 0.020” pass at full width and 280 ipm is already about 5 in³/min in hard maple, which is most of what the spindle has at 12,000 rpm. Take shallow passes and let the width do the work.
Start every pass off the edge of the stock. Fusion’s Face operation leads in from outside the perimeter by default; keep it that way. This is not a plunge bit.
Cutting height is 0.500”, so that caps any rabbet or step cut with it. And at 1-13/16” overall it’s the shortest bit in the drawer, which puts the collet nut close to the work. Fine for spoilboards and open panels; wrong for reaching into anything with walls.
On acrylic the melting risk is rim speed, not chipload. At this diameter even the 8,000 rpm floor is over 2,300 SFM, so keep the feed up and don’t let it dwell.
