The first V in the drawer. Carbide tipped, 90° included angle, comes to a point. Cut width is always twice the depth, so the geometry is the spec: 0.250” max depth, 0.500” max width, 45° walls.

Feeds & Speeds

For the X-Carve Pro and its 1.5 kW spindle. These match the presets stored on this tool in the Fusion hub library. Chipload is figured at the rim, the widest point engaged; everything below it in the V is cutting thinner.

These run higher RPM than the chipload method would normally allow on this machine, and that’s deliberate. Rim speed at the tip is near zero no matter what the spindle does, so the point only cuts cleanly with revs behind it. And carving toolpaths are all short segments and direction changes: the machine spends most of a lettering job accelerating, so the programmed feed is a ceiling it rarely reaches.

The package sheet says 18,000 rpm at 40 ipm. Same spindle speed, but that feed is Amana covering every router ever made: at 40 ipm the rim chipload is 0.0011”, which on this machine is the rubbing range. Drop to it if a cut chatters; otherwise the faster feeds above burn less, not more.

Notes

The real enemy is dwelling. Scorch marks in maple come from the tip sitting in a corner while the machine changes direction, not from the feed number. If an inside corner burns, the fix is a shallower finishing pass, not a slower feed.

Full depth in one pass is fine for lettering. The V only holds 0.25” of material at its widest. For a full-width groove or a long chamfer in hardwood, split it into two passes.

It’s also the chamfer bit. 90° included means 45° edge breaks up to 1/4” wide per side, run with Fusion’s 2D Chamfer. In the library it’s typed as a chamfer mill, which is what both Engrave and 2D Chamfer want.
