Elevations Clock

The Elevations Clock is a birch plywood clock with acrylic numerals, the same bar-graph style that runs through the Elevations line. The acrylic bars are revealed through cuts in the face so the numerals catch a little light.

It runs on a Seiko quartz movement, and came in two sizes: 12 inch and 18 inch. I first showed these as a run of experiments I was calling Intersections. The first one was made for @one_onethousand’s grand opening.

Making it

The round face is CNC-routed from baltic birch. In the model, each slot required thickness adjustments to accommodate slight variations in acrylic thickness. The numeral bars are laser-cut acrylic and pressed into the precise slots. The hands were also laser cut from a thinner stock, and included a slot that allowed the hands to be pressed onto the movement. Over the run I made numerals in natural, black, black and gold, fluorescent yellow and green, with hands that matched or set against them.

Made to order, a few at a time. They sold at markets like Good Day Market and Renegade Craft, online, and was selected to be part of the BUILT showcase during NYCxDesign 2018 at the Canal Street Market.
